Onyx+East, an award-winning home builder based in Indianapolis, was named to Indiana Business Journal’s annual “Fast 25” list, as announced June 24 at an awards ceremony held at the JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis. IBJ’s Fast 25 list is an exclusive ranking of the fastest growing privately held companies in the Indianapolis area. Onyx+East boasted more than 139% revenue growth, qualifying the company to be recognized for its outstanding increases over the past three years. Onyx+East ranked 11th overall among the 25 companies.

“Onyx+East has experienced tremendous growth as a direct result of our innovative ideas and bringing logical, simplified solutions to an otherwise complex urban building environment,” said Kelli Lawrence, Onyx+East CEO. “We continue to invest and push ourselves to be the ‘builder of choice’ in our industry. To do that, we capture the distinctive style and flair of the community in each unique home we build.”

Founded in 2015, Onyx+East has built or has under construction 30 communities (900 units) in Indianapolis and Carmel. Building multiple product types, including townhomes, brownstones flats and single-family detached homes, Onyx+East has a footprint in many popular neighborhoods, including Downtown, Fountain Square, Chatham Arch, Mass Ave., Herron-Morton the Village of West Clay and Carmel City Center. It also is expanding into developing areas including Windsor Park, Riverside, Mapleton-Fall Creek, Friends & Neighbors and Monon 16.

“We redevelop under-used vacant land in existing urban areas—creating new communities that create healthier and vibrant neighborhoods,” Lawrence said.

The company has also experienced rapid employment growth. Since January 2021, the number of employees at Onyx+East more than doubled, from 33 to 66. To accommodate for more expected employee growth, the company is relocating its corporate headquarters early next year, moving from Downtown to a larger facility located Fountain Square. Meanwhile, the company is also expanding by opening offices in Tampa, Fla., Columbus, Ohio, and Cincinnati, Ohio and expanding into the build-for-rent sector.

Onyx+East has also been voted Indy’s Best Home Builder for two straight years (2020 and 2021) by the Indianapolis Star and was named to this year’s “Great Employers To Work For In Indiana” list by BridgeTower Media Company.
